Minturno

Minturno is a town in the province of Latina, whose name seems to derive from the greek Minothauros, though some claim that the name on the contrary has Etruscan origins or Jewish.

During the Roman domination Minturno was located along the Appia Antica. Also in those days was where he took refuge Caio Mario, fleeing troops of Silla.

Minturno was first destroyed by the Lombards in 580 and 590 and a second by the Saracens in 883, then driven by Pope John X, only to be again destroyed by the Hungarians.

Under the control of different Casati, was attacked in 1799 by the French who fought in the cities allied Fra' Diavolo
